Good Luck, and Clear Skies by Travelling Telescope
Here is a movie by our good friend Daniel Chu Owen about the 2013 total solar eclipse in Turkana--a remote part of Northern Kenya. Nomad Dome had just delivered the first digital planetarium in East Africa to A Ask (Amateur Astronomy Society of Kenya) in the capitol city of Nairobi and decided to stay on and help with the eclipse chase. There is some footage here of the planetarium's official public launch at Galleria Mall.
Regardless of politics and national boundaries, we all share the same planet. This video from Dmitry Lantinov, a Russian astro film maker shows our trip included Kenyans, Americans, Russians, Ukrainians, English, Japanese, and Dutch. At one point, we came upon a jeep completely stuck in the soft sand and we helped to free it. The people in the jeep were astronomers from Iran. A Russian, a Ukrainian, An American and an Iranian might sound like the beginning of a joke-- but it was the beginning of an amazing time of star gazing under the same sky.
